• For levels above 39 meters, there is one safe area every 15 meters on the level
directly above 39 meters, and so forth. Any refuge area that exceeds the minimal
criterion will be added to the FAR.
• When connecting portions of various levels, ramps with a slope of no greater
than 1:10 m must be supplied; stairs cannot be used in these cases.

• Where there is a difference in level between connected locations for horizontal
exits or ramps, a slope of no more than one in twelve must be supplied.
Horizontal escape doors must always be capable of opening from both sides.
2.2.11 Lifts
• Lifts must be at least 1500 mm wide and 1500 mm deep for wheelchair users to
maneuver comfortably.
• The lift car entrance must have a clear opening of 900 mm or more.
• The call button outside the lift must have a clear floor space of at least 900 mm x
1200 mm and be put at a height of 800 mm to 1000 mm to allow wheelchair
users to access it.
• Touch control panels are not accessible to visually challenged individuals. It
shall be situated at a height of between 900 mm and 1100 mm from the floor.
2.2.12. Escalators
• An escalator must have a minimum width of 800 mm.
• An escalator's maximum climb is 6 meters, and its maximum inclination angle is
30 degrees.
• There must be 2.2 meters of headroom above the escalator.
• Walls or balustrades must enclose the escalator's sides up to a minimum of one
meter above the step tread.
• The walls or balustrades must be made of fire-resistant materials with a
minimum fire rating of one hour, and there must be more than 100 millimeters
between the wall or balustrade and the step tread.
