2.2.13. HVAC Systems

                  • The purpose of installing air conditioning and ventilation systems in buildings is to

provide an environment that allows people to live comfortably and function securely and

                  effectively.

•The following aspects of the building must be optimized and controlled by the

installation of ventilation and air conditioning systems:
                  a) Air purity and filtration,

                  b) Air movement
                  c) Dry-bulb temperature

                  d) Relative humidity

                  e) Noise and vibration
                  f) Energy efficiency

                  g) Fire safety

                  2.2.13.1 Duct Systems

                     • Chilled beams are commonly used to chill and ventilate spaces, promoting a

comfortable interior climate and individual space control. Chilled beams use
water to remove heat from a room and are placed within the space.

                     • Chilled beams are typically employed where humidity may be controlled.
                     • Chilled beams allow for flexible use of space while providing high and low

temperature cooling and heating, maximizing free cooling and heating.
                     • Chilled beams are employed for moderate internal humidity loads, dehumidified

main air, and regulated infiltration throughout the building.

                     • All underground shopping spaces should have fully functional air conditioning,
installed in all floors at suitable locations after consulting with local fire

                         authorities.
