3.1 Understanding conventions
A convention is a group of people who get together to discuss or partake in a common
interest at a predetermined location and time. Professional meeting and convention planners,
usually employees of the organization hosting the event, are responsible for organizing and

coordinating many conventions. A convention center set aside for holding these kinds of
events may be found in most major cities. MICE stands for meetings incentives. In Asia, the
terms "conventions and exhibitions" are frequently used to describe the sector.
3.2 Types of conventions
Conventions centered on industry, profession, and fandom are the most prevalent. In
addition to them, trade shows: These usually center around a specific industry or industrial
sector and include activities and information that both event organizers and attendees would
find interesting, such as vendor exhibits, keynote speakers, and other material.
• Professional conventions: They highlight advancements in the field and topics of interest
to the profession. Usually, associations devoted to advancing the subject matter host these
conventions.
• Fan conventions: These typically include pop culture-themed exhibits, performances, and
sales, along with celebrity guests.
• Seminars: These are gatherings designed to educate or enlighten a group of individuals on
a certain subject. Teachers and experts are typically invited to give talks on a range of
subjects.
• Social events: A sizable get-together planned to commemorate significant life milestones
and religious rituals. Birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries are typical social occasions.
• Trade exhibitions and exhibits: These provide businesses with a chance to show off some
of their most recent goods to journalists and other industry professionals, as well as
prototypes that have not yet been published.
