and one convention centre, the Tamil Nadu Trade Promotion Organisation,
has acquired another 10 acres of land towards expansion. The expansion aims
to double the capacity of the Chennai Trade Centre to 40,000 sqm, from the
existing 20,000 sqm (Govardan, 2020). The expansion shall include additional
exhibition spaces, convention halls, and a multi-level car parking.
2.2.2. Site Outline & Zoning
The expansion area of the Chennai Trade Centre is located to the south
of the existing built areas of the site. Running almost perpendicular in layout
to the other exhibition and convention halls, the expansion is a singular
structure that is 215m in length by 43m in breadth, as seen in Figure 14
(Green Architecture: The Chennai Trade Centre by Taamesek Engineering
Consortium is a Testament to the Vision and Innovation of its Creators, 2023).
This singular structure accommodates the lobby and exhibition halls at
the ground level, and meeting rooms and convention halls at the first level.
Vehicular access is an extension of the internal roads of the first phase of the
trade centre. Service access is also an extension of the service road to the far
end of the site. No additional entry or exit points have been added owing to
the location of the expansion.
