                  3.4 Indian Museum Kolkata




                  The Indian Museum, inaugurated on February 2, 1814, by Danish botanist Dr.
                  Nathanial Wallich, is the oldest and most expansive museum in India. It holds the

                  distinction of being the first museum in the Asia-Pacific area and has significantly

                  influenced the museum movement across the continent. Over two centuries, it has
                  become a premier repository for India’s vast cultural heritage, standing as the

                  country's first National Museum.




                  The museum showcases a comprehensive collection of animal bones and fossils
                  from South Asia, meticulously curated to depict the region's zoological diversity.

                  Additionally, it features an extensive array of preserved mammals from around the

                  world. However, the exhibition faces challenges; the skeletal displays are encased in
                  glass, which often obscures clear viewing. The exhibit lacks interactive or
