● Zone divisions may need to consider the natural layout of the site, such as
terrain, existing water features, rocky areas, or regions with dense vegetation.
● Each zone should be enclosed with fencing or walls, which should be
concealed or blended into the environment to maintain the natural look of the
zoo and remain unseen by visitors.
● Install dedicated CCTV systems for each zone, with feeds routed to at least
two separate control rooms for enhanced security monitoring.

● Each entry and exit point of a zone should feature a trough filled with
disinfectant to hinder the spread of infections from one zone to another.
● The gates of each zone should be equipped with an alarm and a warning light
to alert visitors and staff promptly in case of an emergency within that zone.
5.2 Design Recommendations for Circulation
5.2.1 Primary Circulation
● These are expansive roads, typically ranging from 6 to 9 meters in width,
designed to form a loop or multiple loops connecting all enclosures within the
zoo.
● The design characteristics of these roads are defined by the choice of surface
materials such as stone, asphalt, or concrete, and edge conditions that may
include curbs or no curbs.
● The design incorporates an effective drainage system, which can be either
surface-based or underground.
● Additional landscape features along these roads include seating, drinking
water facilities, toilet facilities, and waste bins.
● It's important to separate visitor viewing areas from the main pedestrian path
to manage different movement patterns—active circulation on the main path
versus stationary or slow movement in viewing areas.
