                    Synopsis

This thesis project proposes an innovative heritage resort that combines modern sustainability
methods with the restoration of ancient structures to mitigate the impending loss of historic buildings
in Kerala. The project's primary goal is to acquire these endangered heritage buildings from their
original owners who are planning to demolish them in hopes of saving these buildings and move
them to a location near Kerala's scenic Ashtamudi Lake, where they will serve as a living reminder
of the rich cultural and architectural legacy of the area. This project's main goal is to preserve
historical buildings while expertly integrating traditional architecture with contemporary design
ideas. Through the integration of traditional aesthetics, materials, and construction techniques, the
heritage resort serves as an example of how past and modern may coexist together. This strategy
revitalises each picked-up building to fulfil modern hospitality's needs while preserving its distinct
individuality. The resort, which is located on the serene shore of Ashtamudi Lake, makes the most
of its waterfront setting by offering visitors an immersive experience that highlights the area's natural
beauty. To promote peace and harmony with nature, the design integrates features that smoothly
combine the constructed environment with the immaculate waterways. Open-air areas, organic
vegetation, and expansive views are examples of waterfront design elements that improve the entire
visitor experience. The initiative includes community engagement programmes because it recognises
the value of community involvement. Through partnerships with local artisans, skill development
seminars, and cultural events, collaborative efforts make sure that the heritage resort positively
impacts the socio-economic fabric of the area. The initiative aims to establish a long-lasting and
mutually beneficial relationship between the resort and the communities around it by encouraging a
sense of pride and ownership among the locals. The resort is in line with Kerala's long history of
holistic health by emphasising the combination of wellness and Ayurvedic methods. Incorporating
wellness centres and Ayurvedic treatments promotes the region's distinct cultural history while also
improving the visitor experience. This project's goal is to establish a sanctuary for rest, renewal, and
cultural immersion, identifying the heritage resort as a place that goes beyond traditional hospitality.

as a place that goes beyond traditional hospitality. To sum up, the goal of this thesis project is to
show that heritage conservation can be a dynamic, long-term, and financially feasible undertaking.
The heritage resort in Kerala is a shining example of responsible tourism, thanks to its adaptive reuse
of endangered structures, blending of traditional and modern design, engagement with local
communities, integration of wellness techniques, and varied range of activities. Doing this,
not only preserves the historical architectural history but also lays the groundwork for future
generations to continue Kerala's rich cultural tradition.
