4 . UNDERSTANDING THE SITE



                     4.1 Introduction




                     The site in Murungapakkam’s Ward Number 31 is a prime location for an art

                     and craft village. It is situated in the Pondicherry urban agglomeration, near

                     the Bay of Bengal, and is a burgeoning enclave with a mix of residential

                     quarters, small-scale industries, and

                     commercial hubs. The government
                     has   designated    the    land   as   a

                     recreational area, highlighting its

                     potential for communal and leisure
                     activities. The site’s lush vegetation

                     and    unique   backwater     boundary

                     make it an ideal candidate for an arts
                     and crafts village. The village offers a

                     sanctuary for creativity and artistic expression, offering a peaceful

                     environment for artists and craftspeople to immerse themselves in their work

                     while remaining connected to the cultural vibrancy of Pondicherry. The
