Executive Summary

In this thesis, a creative idea for a Kerala historic resort that combines community
involvement, and cultural preservation is presented. The main idea is to save historically
significant structures that are at risk of being demolished and move them close to the
Manimala River, where they can act as moving monuments to Kerala's rich architectural
and cultural heritage. In addition to providing a novel approach to their preservation, the
                       Thesis Report V-SPARC VIT
project aims to stop the imminent loss of cultural assets by purchasing these endangered
                     buildings from their original owners.

This project's main goal is to preserve Kerala's cultural heritage while providing guests
with an immersive experience that combines historic charm and contemporary
hospitality. By involving local people and fostering socio-economic growth, it
establishes a benchmark for conscientious tourism, preserving historical sites while
                     influencing a sustainable future.

This project is centred on striking a careful balance between tradition and modernity.
The resort seeks to create a seamless fusion of modern design concepts with traditional
architectural aesthetics, materials, and building methods. Every building that has been
restored goes through a revitalisation process where its unique historical character is
preserved while being painstakingly modified to fit the demands of contemporary
hospitality. In addition to preserving the architectural legacy, this fusion of the past and
present demonstrates the possibility of adaptive reuse in historical conservation
                     initiatives.

Nestled amid the calm shores of Ashtamudi Lake, the resort capitalises on its waterfront
environment to offer tourists a transforming experience in nature. To improve the overall
guest experience, the design philosophy places a high priority on integration with the
immaculate surroundings. Open-air areas, organic vegetation, and expansive views are
all included. By combining the built environment with the natural landscape, the resort
generates a sense of calm and connection with the natural world, enabling guests to
unwind and revitalise amidst the picturesque grandeur.
