                        Thesis Report V-SPARC VIT
                     2.1.1. Background
The Chennai Trade Centre, located at Nandambakkam in Chennai, was
set up in 2001 by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (Government of

India) and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (Government

of Tamil Nadu). It is located along the Mount Poonamallee Road and is
proximal to the Chennai Airport (6 kms), Koyambedu Bus Terminus (12 kms)

and the Central Railway Station (17 kms).

It has three large exhibition halls that are interconnected, and two
large halls within the convention centre. The site is around 200m by 485m,

covering an expanse of 25.48 acres of land.

                     2.1.2. Site Outline & Zoning
The Chennai Trade Centre is quite straightforward in its planning as

seen in Figure 5. With a long linear site, with the main access road in the

North, two internal roads help establish movement within the site. One access
road to the left, streamlines pedestrian and vehicular movement, to the

                     exhibition halls.

The three interconnected exhibition halls are along the front of the site.

Large volumes of open space around these halls, double up as ticket counters,

food stalls, etc. in the event of an exhibition. The convention centre, having
been constructed a few years later, is located at the rear of the site.
