2.      LITERATURE REVIEW


               2.1.  About Anegundi

               2.1.1. Location and Context

               GAnegundi  is  a  small  town  located  in  North

               Karnataka.  It  falls  in  the  Gangavathi  Taluk  of
               Koppal District. The area of Anegundi village is

               7.219 sq. km It is a part of heritage core zone as

               stated  by  HWHAMA.  The  closed  major  city  is

               Anegundi is located on the banks of Tungabhadra

               River  and  to  the  north  of  Hampi.  The  evident

               landscape  of  Anegundi  comprises  of  the  green
               pastures  of  agricultural  cultivation,  the  majestic                               Boulders
                                                                                                     Tungabhadra River
               boulders,  the  Tungabhadra  River,  and  its  built

               2.1.2. Background Study


               2.1.2.1.       Mythological, Historical and Archeological Importance


               Anegundi is considered the site of the legendary
               Kishkindha, kingdom of monkey prince Sugriva

               and birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The formation of

               rocks  and  geological  aspects  date  back  to  pre-  Fig 8. Mythological Story of Sugriva and the Plateau

               historic times- 4 billion years old. [Fig. 8]


               Anegundi is home to prehistoric settlement called

               Onake  Kindi.  The  rocks  are  decorated  with

               petroglyphs, and there are several red and white
               patterns  depicting  human  and  bull  figures.  This

               human settlement contains  traces of Microlithic,
