Blind people's stairs are made with safety and accessibility in mind, with
elements that make it possible for those who are blind to confidently climb
them. To warn blind people of their existence, tactile indicators—such as
textured strips or tiles—placed at the top and bottom of staircases are an
essential component. These signs indicate the start and finish of a flight of
stairs and operate as tactile signals. Furthermore, handrails are necessary
to give blind people stability and direction when going up or down stairs,
enabling them to keep their balance and orientation. In order to make sure
that staircases are well-lit and visually different from their surroundings,
proper lighting and contrast are also crucial.
