3.3. Construction Types and Material Specifications
Construction Types IA and IB: According to the Abu Dhabi International Building Code
(Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, 2013), The museum will adhere to the
construction specifications of Type IA, providing flexibility in design with unlimited story
heights and floor area, which is essential for creating expansive, uninterrupted gallery
spaces. This construction type supports the museum's architectural vision, allowing for a
grand scale that enhances visitor immersion within the exhibits.
Fire-Resistance and Material Safety: According to the building code, the museum must
utilize Class A materials for interior wall and ceiling finishes to ensure the highest level of
fire safety. Class A materials have a flame spread index of 0-25, making them highly
resistant to fire, which is crucial for protecting both the valuable artifacts housed within the
museum and the visitors.

3.4. Compliance with Fire-Resistance Requirements
Detailed Compliance: The primary structural frame of the museum will include materials
that meet a fire-resistance rating of three hours (Type IA), ensuring structural integrity
during emergencies. Non-load bearing walls and partitions will also adhere to required
fire-resistance standards, enhancing the overall safety of the building.
