INAUGURATION OF NEW LABS

The School of Mechanical Engineering's Mechatronics Laboratories were inaugurated by our
Hon'ble Chancellor, Dr. G. Viswanathan. The Mechatronic Laboratories include the Microcontroller &
Interfacing Lab, the Instrumentation & Control Systems Lab, and the Modelling & Simulation Lab.
Delegates from Renault Nissan, Chennai – Mr. Mukesh Bhat – VP, Powertrain; Mr. Senthil Kumar
          Ramakrishnan – Dy. VP, PWT Embedded S/w & Tuning; Mr. Anand Gurupatham – GM, PWT CAE;
Mr. Lakshmisha Pathy– DGM, PWT CAE and Mr. Sai Kondraju- HOD, Engineering Academy were chief guests
          during the inauguration.

                        NEW INFRASTRUCTURE AND RESEARCH FACILITY

Dr. Arulvel S and Dr. Jayakrishna K developed an
electrochemical coating unit facility in School of
Mechanical Engineering (SMEC). In SMEC, the facilities
such as electro-deposition, electroless coating, electrolytic
coating and electrophoretic deposition are routinely used
by the scholars of SMEC as well as scholars from other
schools of VIT, Vellore. Electrochemical deposition
techniques are emerging techniques to impart exceptional
           biofouling-corrosion resistance, friction, and wear
properties to surfaces. At present, different types of
coatings include Cupric, Nickel, Bio-ceramic, Ceramic,
Polymer and composite coatings are carried out using
           these facilities.
Recently, Prof Dr. Shrikant Joshi, from University West, Sweden has recently visited the electrochemical coating
facility and interacted with the both UG and PG students as well as PhD scholars of SMEC.

The Computerised Automated Bottom pouring Stir Casting
facility has now been installed in Foundry shop.
