TECHIE TALK
Students nowadays spend a lot of time on online courses to better themselves.
What knowledge or skill sets should someone have in today's world with the
advent of industry 4.0?
In the current context, online courses may assist students in developing new abilities.
However, if students are unable to use the knowledge gained through online courses
in the real world, emphasis should be placed on students' capacity to integrate their
knowledge with industrial applications. My recommendation is that students choose
an industrial problem for their final year project and work with an industry group to Mr. Sudhir Suriyanarayanan

requirements. Individual freedom is required even when working in a group, and
each student must be aware of the overall concept and environment. KBR, Inc. , Chennai.
How does one balance a work life and keep up with the progresses in the industry which is important for
any engineer in today's world?
In terms of life balance, smart planning will enable us to achieve work-life balance. At the beginning of a profession, it is
necessary to focus more on learning and adjusting to other personal responsibilities. Always prioritize work delivery over
displaying the amount of hours spent. Work-life balance increases overall satisfaction and fulfillment by balancing work
with personal activities, hobbies, relationships, and self-care. The golden rule of work-life balance is that prioritization is
the only way to achieve it. Prioritization does not have to be difficult.
Seeking the wisdom of an industry mentor, leader or long-time professional has tremendous value. What
is the one advice you have for someone new to your industry and what would be the best way to grow in an
industry like yours?
Determination and consistency. The industry will offer everyone a chance, but when that moment comes, we must be
prepared to give our best effort with the resources we have. Attend conferences, take courses, and read professional
magazines to stay up to date on the newest industry trends. Identify areas where you can improve your talents and work
on them. Be open to constructive criticism and use it to identify areas in which you can develop. Take action on the
feedback you get and demonstrate to your company your commitment to ongoing improvement. Accept change and be
open to new opportunities. Be open to new ideas and techniques, and be willing to stretch yourself beyond your comfort
zone.
Many students nowadays are misguided or feel lost when it comes to career path and career goals, both
short and long term. Could an expert such as yourself through light on this relating it with your personal
experience?
Career is only one aspect of our lives; if you want to set specific short and long-term goals, you must first invest in yourself
and your work. Examine your existing situation. Be in that position and try to fix the scenario that is currently affecting
you and try to resolve that problem as soon as possible. Imagine yourself in the future, wherever you wish to be. My long-
term goal is to make my way up within your firm by being honest and hardworking. I advise students to investigate and
learn about Industry 4.0 technologies, as they will open up several prospects in the industry, resulting in a bright career
for at least the next ten years.
VIT has many avenues for students to explore, with access for students to labs, books and a rabbit hole for
us to explore. What is the right path for a student to take to develop useful skills required by an engineer?
Strong problem-solving abilities are one of the most important skills an engineer can have. An engineer's job include
examining a situation, identifying issues, and then devising solutions. Employers will want to see that you can deal with
challenges in your regular work. To answer a problem, you must use logic, common sense, and analytical thinking.
Resilience, adaptability, flexibility, and collaborative abilities are among the linked characteristics. Curiosity and a desire
to create new things are two qualities that engineers need possess in order to be successful. Engineers must be creative
because they are in charge of conceiving and designing mechanical systems.
