1. INTRODUCTION

                  1.1 Objective

The overarching objective of this thesis is to explore the synergies between the urban
community's necessities, the local community's aspirations, and the implementation of the
                       Thesis Report V-SPARC VIT
desalination project in Manori. Prioritising the integration of the desalination project, this
study aims to examine the socio-economic and cultural characteristics of the urban

demographic and the indigenous community to identify their specific needs and preferences
in relation to water resources and sustainable development initiatives like desalination.

Through this integrated approach, which combines industrial architecture, community

well-being, and urban recreation, the thesis seeks to articulate a cohesive vision for the
Manori RTDZ. By incorporating public spaces and recreational facilities within the

desalination project's design, such as waterfront promenades, green spaces, and cultural
venues, the project aims to enhance community well-being, foster a sense of belonging, and

promote physical and mental health among residents. Ultimately, by offering practical
recommendations and strategic pathways, this holistic approach endeavors to create a

balanced and prosperous future for the Manori region, addressing both immediate water

needs and contributing to long-term sustainable development and resilience.

                  1.2 Architecture of Industry

Industrial Architecture is the design of buildings and spaces within buildings to support an
                  industrial process.

1.2.1 Designing Contemporary Industries with enhanced public stakeholdership.

Industrial architecture, historically characterised by imposing, utilitarian structures,

has often borne a negative image in the public eye due to its association with

pollution, resource depletion, and environmental degradation. However,
contemporary shifts in design and technology are reshaping this perception and

pushing the industry toward sustainability and eco-friendliness.
