1.3.6 Existing Recreation Infrastructure

The MGU Notified Area includes 8 villages, including Manori and Gorai, covering an area
of approximately 19.52 square kilometres. These villages are also under the administrative
authority of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). The M-G-U region is
home to various recreation facilities, as detailed in the "Develop-ment Control
Regulations-2012 for Manori-Gorai-Uttan Notified Area" by MMRDA. Visitors can enjoy
water sports, theme parks, and adventure parks. Sunset viewpoints offer beautiful scenery,
while trekking trails provide nature exploration. Dongri Fort appeals to history buffs, and
the Vipassana Pagoda offers meditation and prayer spaces. Accommodation options include
three-star and four-star hotels.
1.3.6 Proposed Recreation Infrastructure
In the future, the MGU region plans to introduce more recreational amenities. Heritage
walks will showcase local culture, while tourist information centres will aid visitors. A
mangrove park and botanical garden will promote environmental awareness. (Figure 3) The
tourism development zone aims to attract more travellers. Plans for a mangrove boardwalk
and boat cruise will offer immersive nature experiences as prescribed in the DCR 2012.
1.3.6 North Mumbai & Recreation
North Mumbai consists of the suburbs of Manori, Borivali, Gorai, Goregaon, Malad,
Kandivali and Mira Bhayandar. They lie on the Western train line and are usually considered
part of the Western Suburbs. The area has some nice beaches, especially near Malad. The
area also covers Sanjay Gandhi National Park and the historical Kanheri Caves. It also
houses the Essel World, an amusement park. The beaches of north Mumbai serve as an ideal
getaway for weekend tourists from Mumbai. Its easy train and road connectivity makes it a
favourite weekend destination for Mumbaikars. The place is also home to East Indian
