3. PROJECT SYNOPSIS
3.1. Rationale for selection of site
1. The close proximity of Anegundi to Hampi, and its potential to become a hub for
sustainable rural tourism due to the availability of unique local crafts that make use of
locally available resources that are both indigenous and sustainable.
2. Scope and need for promotion of valuable heritage of the site as recognised by the
Karnataka Government and other organisations such as HWHAMA, Kishkinda Trust,
and others.
3. Present policies and need to boost tourism in this region, as stated by HWHAMA.
4. Lack of infrastructural development for practicing work on daily basis, imparting
knowledge and cultural practices of the region.
5. Need of enhancing the tourist experience and interpretation of the importance of these
sustainable practices and crafts in today’s world.
6. Sustainability- A concept that has gained major importance in every field, thus, to ensure
global recognition of these sustainably produced indigenous crafts and the processes
involved.

3.2. Aim of the project
To design an architectural infrastructure- a sustainable hub for promotion of crafts
of Anegundi and its historical heritage, both contributing to the development of
tourism in the region, through the conceptualization of various spaces specific to the
required functions and experiences.
3.3. Objectives
1. To provide a platform to perform and showcase indigenous craft work, to improve the
social and economical background of the artisanal community of Anegundi and such
neighbouring villages.
2. To spread awareness about the sustainable indigenous crafts of Anegundi and elevate it
to be recognised globally.
3. To aid tourists in identifying the heritage value of Anegundi, through interpretive
facilities.
4. To provide a platform for local festivals and events.
