3. PROJECT SYNOPSIS

3.1. Rationale for selection of site

                  1. The close proximity of Anegundi to Hampi, and its potential to become a hub for
sustainable rural tourism due to the availability of unique local crafts that make use of

locally available resources that are both indigenous and sustainable.
                  2. Scope and need for promotion of valuable heritage of the site as recognised by the

Karnataka Government and other organisations such as HWHAMA, Kishkinda Trust,
                      and others.

                  3. Present policies and need to boost tourism in this region, as stated by HWHAMA.

                  4. Lack of infrastructural development for practicing work on daily basis, imparting
knowledge and cultural practices of the region.

                  5. Need of enhancing the tourist experience and interpretation of the importance of these
sustainable practices and crafts in today’s world.

                  6. Sustainability- A concept that has gained major importance in every field, thus, to ensure

global recognition of these sustainably produced indigenous crafts and the processes
                      involved.
