4.2. Indira Gandhi international airport, Delhi
The rationale behind choosing Delhi International Airport lies in the
structure and layout of its terminal. While the terminal building is
singular, it incorporates distinct blocks for international and domestic
passengers, facilitating seamless passenger flow and operational efficiency.

Figure 37: site plan of Delhi airport
The site plan of Delhi International Airport reveals a layout organized in a
grid pattern, featuring a pier area within the terminal block. It
encompasses two parallel runways certified for A380 flights and
designated with the F-code, alongside one of the largest airport parking
lots. Additionally, there are two parallel taxiways, with the runways
situated at the top of the plan reserved for domestic use by the T1 and T2
terminals. A unified terminal tower serves all three terminals, and the
airport is seamlessly connected to both metro and state transportation
systems. Notably, the T3 terminal, capable of accommodating 60 million
passengers, was constructed within a remarkable 37-month timeframe
ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
