       Dear Colleagues,

It is indeed a great pleasure to put forth the annual report of the School of Mechanical Engineering (SMEC) for the year 2023-
2024. Once again, this is a remarkable year for our school. We are progressing well in our academics and research which
paved the way for us to step into the rank band of #201-250 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024. The
commitment to all our academic endeavors' attracts potential students to enrol on our programs.

The school takes great pride in the substantial funds for research obtained from several national and international funding
organisations, such as the British Council, Royal Academy of Engineering, and DST. We established the “Centre for Additive
Manufacturing,” with an advanced metal 3D printing facility and extensive materials testing and characterisation capabilities. I
firmly assert that these facilities empower teachers and students to engage in niche areas and attract more national and
international financing in the next years. The SMEC office encourages students, professors, and researchers to stay focused on
sustainable development goals and engage in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research. The school strives to integrate
the Sustainable Development Goals in the laboratories.

This year’s Industry-Academia Networking Conclave (IANC 2024) is the next milestone achievement of our school. We have set
several benchmarks through this conclave. We signed 15 MoUs with the Industries this year. VOLVO, RNTBCI helped us design
the new program M.Tech. Smart Mobility and we have launched this program in the year 2024-2025. Similarly, RNTBCI handed
over an SUV for our academic and research purposes. The school has also attracted many consultancy projects and internship
opportunities through this networking conclave 2024. The School will be implementing futuristic curriculums and courses in
B.Tech and M.Tech by integrating courses that meet the needs of industry. We featured distinguished speakers from industry
and academia to present lectures on current topics as part of our curriculum.

During 2023-2024, the school has organised a considerable number of workshops, value-added courses, certification courses,
seminars, International Summer Schools and an International Conference. We also conducted a short-term certification
course for the students of Fontys University, Netherlands. Our students’ participation in industry/research internships and
Semester Abroad Programs has been facilitated through the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and partnerships with
             T
esteemed Universities and Industries all over the world. Through these MOUs, our students can complete their research
internships with the support of esteemed fellowships including MITACS. The placement numbers are astounding and many of
our students received multiple job offers, including both dream and super-dream offers. Thanks to our institute's Career
Development Centre and the Office of International Relations. The number of students who have opted to pursue Masters’
Degrees at Institutions abroad has considerably increased.

Many of our faculty members have received praiseworthy awards/accolades/honors/recognitions from both domestic and
foreign organisations and it’s obvious that our SMEC faculty team has a strong commitment to carrying out high-quality
research. We are excited to collaborate with partners from academia, industry, and government with respect to our
research/educational initiatives. We can combine our abilities to confront society's most pressing challenges and play a
significant role in honing our local and global communities. The immense dedication of the faculty members, staff, and
students of SMEC with the support and encouragement of a plethora of well-wishers, including alumni, members of the Board
of Studies, Industry and academic partners, have made SMEC to immensely scale up to greater heights and helped the school
to accomplish more over the years possible.

Let’s together make a sustainable society for tomorrow!

                                                                                 Dean (SMEC)
