Access to quality higher education is crucial to the personal and long-
term development of children, families and communities. Unfortunately,
many students do not have access to higher education. Studies show that
there is a strong correlation between levels of educational attainment and
long term financial stability, economic development and ending the
circle of poverty.

Under the STARS programme, one boy and one girl (with higher
secondary education in government high schools) from different districts
in Tamil Nadu, are given free education, including free accommodation
facilities.
Green Vellore Movement
VIT has embarked upon the task of making Vellore greener and cooler
by planting more than million saplings under its “Green Vellore” project
.
The following are the activities.

The project aims at restoring the River Palar from being polluted. The
project area will be confined to the Vellore Corporation limit in its first
phase
YSPARK
The project envisages the evolution of SHGs in the Vellore District into
sustainable micro enterprise by providing guidance, technical and
handholding support through capacity building, product identification,
technology transfer, product designing, product development, creating
marketing linkage and use of Information Communication Technology
(ICT) by carrying out the following:

Setting-up of Enterprise

Bankable Project Preparation

Follow-up and Monitoring
Universal Higher Education Project
With the aim of providing ‘Access to higher education to all’, the
Universal Higher Education Trust (UHET) has been established in October
2012. The project aims at catering to the needs of the underprivileged
students of the 12
th
standard who wish to pursue higher education. UHET
embraces financial assistance, career counseling, advocacy, networking
