Dr. Ezhil Vizhi R.
Professor and Director
Centre for Functional Materials (CFM)
It gives me great pleasure to write a message for the first annual Newsletter of Centre for Functional
Materials.
With the mission to empower the researchers to be globally recognized in cutting-edge research and
contribute to the nation's research challenges, the Centre for Functional Materials (CFM, formerly Centre for
Crystal Growth, CCG) at VIT, Vellore, was established in December 2016.
To establish a state-of-the-art research and development centre to facilitate research activities in future
technologies, the Centre aims to investigate and innovate functional materials with tailored properties. It will
accelerate new materials development and enable essential clarity to understand the materials for societal
benefits. Our Centre also focuses on prototyping the scientific output, which will result in patents and
licensing.
The activities of the Centre and the research experts are listed in this Newsletter. The Centre has
established a good collaborative network with major research institutions in Asia, Europe, and United States.
Our vision promises to be exciting, and we wish that you will join us as we grow and progress. Scholars and
practitioners interested in globalization and contributing towards making in India are invited to contact us.
I feel proud of witnessing such a magnificent institution fully dedicated to the betterment of students
through education and research. I am greatly obliged and thankful to all the CFM faculty members and
research scholars for their support and efforts in developing the Centre. A special thanks to the VIT
management for providing all the facilities and consistent support.
I am sure our members can meet upcoming technological demands and challenges. Let us get started
and become technology smart with our mission to fulfill the nation's research challenges. I wish to great
success in all their Endeavours.
With best regards,
Ezhil Vizhi R.
Science is international but its success is based on institutions, which are owned
by nations. If therefore, we wish to promote culture we have to combine and to
organize institutions with our own power and means.
