The Peace Area is more than just a geographical location; it represents the goal of world
harmony and peace. Auroville aspires to be a global community where individuals of many
ethnicities, cultures, and origins coexist in an atmosphere of cooperation and respect. The
Matrimandir at the center of the Peace Area represents the shared desire for a world devoid
of strife and discord.Matrimandir and the Auroville Peace Area are based on an inclusive,
highly spiritual ideology.
It reflects the Auroville community's commitment to transcending boundaries, fostering
inner growth, and working towards the realization of human unity and peace
on a global scale.
4.3.4 Zoning and circulation
1. The meditation is conducted in the central inner chamber of Matrimandir, which is
its center.Twelve petals, arranged in the shape of a lotus flower, encircle the Inner
Chamber.
2. Individual meditation rooms or chambers are housed within the petals.
3. The area surrounding Matrimandir is embellished with well-maintained gardens and
pathways, which contribute to the overall quiet and peaceful ambiance.

4. An amphitheater, where visitors can sit and think, surrounds the center structure and
the twelve petals.

Radial walkways that connect the outer perimeter to the center core are usually
responsible for facilitating access to the Inner Chamber.
4.3.4 Characteristics
1. The Matrimandir is a 36-meter-diameter, flattened sphere that is 29 meters high and
is held up by four pillars.

The structure's distinctive brightness is derived from the sunlight reflected by golden
discs covering the Geodesic dome.

The Matrimandir and its surrounding gardens in the center Peace Area are entirely
available to the public.
4. The largest optically perfect glass globe is located in the meditation hall known as
the inner chamber, which is located inside this central dome.
