                     At  the  entrance  of  SM  Street  in  Kozhikode,  there  is  a  bust  of  the

                     Malayalam-language writer SK Pottekkatt. This street is a heritage rich

                     marketplace  where  hawkers  sell  all  kinds  of  knick-knacks.  You  might

                     wonder why his statue is placed there. The reason is that his novel named

                     “Oru Theruvinte Katha” won him the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award. It
                     was  based  on  the  story  of  this  street,  which  is  also  known  as  Mittai

                     Theruvu  or  Sweetmeat  Street.  The  novel  paints  vignettes  of  characters

                     from “The Street.”





                     After considering the historical significance of Kozhikode, I have decided

                     to locate my proposed design near these areas in the city centre to reflect

                     the rich literary history.
