EDITORIAL

A warm welcome to all readers of MechnoVIT, issue X (Oct-Dec 2021),
the quarterly Newsletter of the School of Mechanical Engineering, VIT,

Vellore. We are proud to present it in its new Avatar. You will note that it
now has a name-after many deliberations we chose this name capturing the

Mechanical Engineering ethos within the VIT fold. You will also notice that
we have posted our Editorial Notes against the backdrop of an archival
footage of the former Vellore Engineering College (VEC) from the early

eighties which evolved into the now famous Vellore Institute of Technology.
The watermark backdrop shows the former VEC, now known as the

G.D. Naidu Block. The GDN, as it is now lovingly called, currently houses the
School of Mechanical Engineering. This is very gratifying for two reasons.
First, we are part of this glorious progression, with humble beginnings to its

current international stature. Secondly, the School of Mechanical
Engineering’s stellar contributions to the overall academic profile of VIT has
steadily increased over the years. In this context, we would like to gratefully

acknowledge Dr. R. Vasudevan’s unstinting efforts as former Dean.
Within this quarter (Oct-Dec 2021), even when the school was
grappling with COVID-19, there were substantial achievements by faculty

and students. This is reflected in the h-index increase of the school’s
publications, outstanding student and alumni achievements, International

Partnering of the schools departments, International and National Funded
Research grants, Award of Patents, International recognition of Faculty,
progression of student career paths, and creation of pathways for the

generation of new knowledge in the form of new programs and curriculum
development. Lastly, the school’s premises with its sunlit corridors and

verdant ramparts encourages creativity-this will be tellingly visible as you
           peruse MechnoVIT, issue X.
