EDITORIAL
Welcome to the 14 Issue of MechnoVIT. We first take the pleasure of welcoming the New Year 2023
th
with this brand new edition of your very own MechnoVIT. We believe that along with SMEC attainments,
MechnoVIT has grown from strength to strength in terms of readability, coverage, and outreach. We received
excellent feedbacks from faculty and students alike. We thank all of them wholeheartedly.
This past quarter coincided with festivities and celebrations, and we have additional reasons for good cheer. It
is our pride and privilege that the School of Mechanical Engineering achieved something quite spectacular- a
team led by Dr. Kalaiarassan G and students team developed a robotic programming to perform the Ayudha
Puja Rituals. The intelligent Robot performed arati with the sound of Ghanta. This took the social media by
storm and Tamil and English newspapers (including The Hindu) gave a full coverage on 5 Oct 2022 and
th
deserves a pride of place in MechnoVIT’s Editorial coverage.
We also showcase the inauguration of SMEC’s Mechatronics laboratories. Not only are its looks and feel
spectacular and world-class, its range of instruments and facilities make it one of the finest Instrumentation
Labs in the whole of South India.
During December 2022, SMEC organized a National Conference on Internal Combustion Engines led by the
Dean SMEC and the Director of the Automotive Research Centre. During the inauguration ceremony we were
privileged by the presence of National and International experts, and the icing on the cake was the inspiring
speech by the Director General of the Council and Scientific Research’s.
A team of SMEC members travelled to the UK for engaging with their English counterparts for the ERASMUS
Capacity Building Project as a very successful first visit. Several other Faculty members led groups to other
countries as well. Faculty, students, Alumni, have all contributed to SMEC’s profile in terms of Research,
Recognitions (nationally and internationally), Patents, Startups, Industrial engagements as well as major
Funding. SMEC received a whopping FIST Funding led by the Dean and Dr Raja Annamalai A with a team of
SMEC Faculty.
Mr. M. Aravindan scaled heights simply by walking 35 kms daily to cover 1200 kms for a very noble cause -
blood donation awareness and received Kalam World Record Medal and greatly lauded by our beloved
Chancellor.
