Briefly highlight the contributions of the department in generating new knowledge, basic or
applied.
Involvement of SAS faculty members in the inter-disciplinary areas.
51.
Detail five major
Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges (SWOC) of the
department.
Strength:
1. More than 90% of our school faculty members are with Doctoral degree and many
of them worked as Post Doctoral Fellow in various foreign universities.
2. School is having more than Rs. 2 Crore research projects from various funding
agencies in the National and International Levels
3. Very good sophisticated Instrumental facility.
Weakness
1. Less student strength in M.Sc. Courses
Impact – Availability of science students for fundamental research
- Survival of the course
- Research input will be hampered
2.
No undergraduate programs in Maths, Physics and Chemistry
Impact – Unable to offer core courses
- Input for PG courses will be less
3. Lack of Prominent Instrumentation facilities like
Scanning Electron Microscope
Transmission electron Microscope
Single Crystal X-ray diffractometer
4. Collaboration within school is limited
Challenges:
1. Popularizing the M.Sc. Courses
Impact - We can get good quality of students
- We can offer New branches (Ex. Materials Chemistry)
- Research input will be Improved
- Placements can be improved
2.
Taking research to next level
Impact - Publication in high impact journals
- Collaboration with Industries for Consultancy work
- Will result in International collaborations
3.
Promoting the School in International arena (Conferences & Workshops)
- Will result in International collaborations
- May result in Multinational Projects
- Twinning programmes
