48. Briefly highlight the contributions of the department in generating new knowledge, basic
or applied.
The department has contributed well in accomplishing both basic and applied knowledge
by organizing workshops, conferences, seminars and arranging guest lecturers to the
students and faculty members by the experts from the industries and academia. This
school has corroborated its excellence by bringing out technological expertise and
innovative contributions in terms of funded projects in various areas. The various govt.
agencies AR&DB, NRB, DRDO, DRDL, DST are constantly encouraging and
sponsoring the research activities of the school. The contributions in the research works
carried out on the dissimilar metal combinations through different welding pedagogies
and the characterization of these weldments in ambient and hot corrosive environments
have resulted in good number of publications and also the funded projects. DST-FIST
has established the automotive research centre for carrying out research in IC engines
and hybrid laser welding facility for the excellent knowledge provided to the young
engineers through research activities.
