2.3 Teaching-Learning Process
2.3.1
How does the university plan and organise the teaching, learning
and evaluation schedules (academic calendar, teaching plan, evaluation
blue print, etc.)?
All programmes under Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS) follow
semester system. There are two semesters in an academic year. Normally, the
Fall Semester is from July to December and Winter Semester from December
to May. The academic calendar is prepared, well ahead the start of the
semester (atleast one month). It contains the list of working days, examination
schedule, major events at VIT and holidays. The illustration in the following
page depicts the typical academic calendar of the University.
Similarly the teaching plan (called the course plan), is scheduled for all
the courses and is made available to the students through intranet.
With regard to the evaluation schedules, the faculty members are
expected to complete the evaluation of the internal assessments within one
week of the exams (of the respective course). Likewise, the processing steps
of the final term end examination, which is conducted in a centralized manner,
is scheduled well in advance. A prototype schedule of the same is given in the
next page. Whether it is an internal assessment or a term end examination, the
faculty members are required to make the evaluation key (the blue print)
available to students, so that the evaluation is transparent and so that it might
help the students perform better in the subsequent examinations.
