are redirected to student counselors, who offer valuable guidance to the
students, in multiple sittings.
Due to the fact that the above mentioned issues and problems are common
in almost all campuses, the UGC - University Grants Commission has
mandated that all professional college campuses should have counselors
and if possible counselors trained in the up-coming issues of Alcohol and
Drugs, are more beneficial. VIT University abides to this regulation and
takes care of the welfare of the students.
5.1.16
Does the university promote a gender-sensitive environment by
(i) conducting gender related programmes (ii) establishing a cell and
mechanism to deal with issues related to sexual harassment? Give
details.
In VIT, generally all programmes are common to both genders. The office
of the student welfare addresses all the issues of the students. A ‘
women
grievance cell
’ has been established to look into the gender-sensitive
issues. During the last four years no complaints related to sexual
harassment was received. In order to have close monitoring, the
complaints are to be received by the ‘Students Welfare Office’ and if
necessary it is passed on to the
‘women grievance cell’
for further enquiry
and action.
5.1.17
Is there an anti-ragging committee? How many instances, if any,
have been reported during the last four years and what action has
been taken in these cases?
As per the mandate of UGC, the University does have an anti-ragging
committee, consisting of faculty members and non-teaching staff. The
University makes the students understand, at the time of admission, that
ragging is an offence and is punishable. Students involved in ragging are
prone to imprisonment and suspension from the University. Hoardings are
displayed across the campus to prohibit anti-ragging.
VIT is successful in its anti-ragging campaign that no cases of ragging
have been reported during the last four years.
5.1.18
How does the university elicit the cooperation of all its

The list of stakeholders of the university include (i) advisory committees
(ii) alumni (iii) employees (iv) parents (v) prospective students. A
meeting is convened regularly to discuss the issues related to the
development of the university.
