3.4.1 Introduction
The combination of newly constructed and renovated architecture was
supposed to have completely realized the vision for the Piazza, making it a
"surprise plaza" in the vein of the downtown Mediterranean in nature, where
passersby would be walking along a narrow passage or alley without realizing
it until they suddenly arise into a bright plaza surrounded by restaurants and
stores. The Piazza d'Italia is situated in the center of a city block, set back
from the neighboring streets, due to this desired impact.
"Packed with a series of events that happen one after another, with both
minor and major theater, and exciting dynamics."
