3. SITE SELECTION AND ANALYSIS

                     3.1. Background for Site Selection

Two aspects were observed in understanding the history and context of
Tiruppur. The first being the need for a trade centre along the core city. The
                        Thesis Report V-SPARC VIT
only built form of exhibition space, India Knit Fair Association’s centre is

along the Northern outskirts of the city. The two exhibition centres - Knit-tech

Exhibition Centre and the Top-light Trade Centre are both open spaces with
temporary set ups for conducting events. They are on the outskirts of the city

                     as well.

Secondly, the development of the Town Hall into a convention centre
with exhibition spaces, along the core centre of the city, as part of the Smart

City initiative, also indicates the need for such a centre in Tiruppur. Yet, this

Town Hall development, is smaller than both the built and open exhibition
                     centres available in the city.

In conjunction, the project site selection needed to address two factors.
Firstly, the site had to be in the core city of Tiruppur, along historic city

landmarks and with ease of access in terms of commute. Next, the site had to

be larger in area to accommodate two functions- an exhibition centre and a
convention centre. With these factors in mind, the project site was selected at

the centre of the Municipal Corporation limits of the city.
