8 . SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
The Swadesh Darshan Scheme, a government initiative, aims to boost tourism
in India by focusing on Puducherry, a coastal union territory. Puducherry, a
blend of French colonial heritage and traditional Indian culture, offers a
variety of experiences, including beaches, culinary delights, and local crafts.

The scheme aims to preserve and promote cultural heritage by engaging
tourists in daily life through village settings, cultural exchanges, and
traditional activities. This thesis aims to explore the impact of integrating the
Art and Craft Village within the Swadesh Darshan Scheme in Puducherry,
examining how this can serve as a sustainable tourism model that respects
cultural heritage, promotes economic development, and fosters mutual
respect between tourists and host communities. The aim is to transform
Puducherry into a destination for cultural discovery and enrichment.
