ABSTRACT

In the 21st century, air travel has emerged as the swiftest mode of

transportation, witnessing a surge in demand. This escalating competition
within the airline industry to furnish cost-effective and high-quality

services underscores the imperative for numerous airports to attain

international status. Such a transition not only facilitates broader

connectivity but also catalyzes economic growth in Warangal and its
adjoining regions by enhancing accessibility and drawing in more tourists.

Warangal, steeped in history as the erstwhile capital of the Kakatiya

dynasty, boasts a rich cultural heritage adorned with remnants of its
glorious past - fortresses, lakes, temples, and stone gateways. Presently,

the city relies on Vijayawada airport, situated approximately 150km away.

However, endeavors by the Telangana state government to resurrect
Warangal airport, erstwhile the largest in the region until 1981, have been

                     stymied by various challenges.

The state government has petitioned the Ministry of Civil Aviation to
incorporate the airport into the Government of India’s UDAN scheme.

Plans entail the acquisition of land from Nakkalapalli, Gadepalli, and

Mamnoor villages in Khila Warangal Mandal to expand the airport's

infrastructure. Given the contemporary requirements of a 21st-century
airport, meticulous attention must be accorded to terminal design.

Learning from the shortcomings of existing international airports,

emphasis must be laid on circulation patterns, aesthetic appeal, flexibility,

and user experience to avert potential setbacks and financial losses.
In the current landscape, where government-run airports are transitioning

to private ownership, the onus lies on designers to conceptualize spaces

that ensure operational efficiency amidst burgeoning air traffic. Crucial
considerations include passenger circulation dynamics and their

interaction with the built environment. Exemplary case studies such as

Singapore Changi Airport and London Heathrow Airport offer valuable
