Project Description

The proposed work aims to address the life-threatening physical injuries suffered by our Indian soldiers on the warfront. The most common type of physical injury is inflicted by gunshot wounds, which are often associated with bleeding, broken bones, organ damage, infection of the wound, or loss of ability to move the body part. Long-term complications also include lead poisoning and post-traumatic stress disorder. Hence, quick response time to treatment provided to the soldiers is critical for both their physical and mental well-being. We aim to develop a method using alginate-capped silver nanoparticles and adipose-derived stem cells embedded on a collagen matrix (CAAgNP-ASC), to provide holistic healing that will not only protect the wounds from microbial infestation, but also regenerate the underlying adipose tissue that is often lost in severe burn cases. We believe that the proposed method would lead to a much quicker and complete healing of even the 3˚ wounds, as compared to the ones currently available in the market.
