Assistant ProfessorProject Description
Engineered cardiac patch mimics cardiac tissue and are implanted on the surface of the left ventricular region to regenerate damaged cardiac tissue after a cardiac attack. The main objective of this project is to develop a starch-based conducting vascularized cardiac patch. The project involves optimization and physico-chemical characterizations of novel conducting biopolymeric bioinks for 3D bioprinting of cardiac patch. The project also involves the differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) towards cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CM) and fabrication of vascularized patch containing hiPSC-CM. Finally, in vitro cell studies will be performed to evaluate the efficacy and functionality of the developed vascularized cardiac patch. The expected direct outcome of the project is the development of an indigenous, cheaper, conducting and vascularized cardiac patch suitable for the Indian population.
