Project Description
Biogas production from food waste with co-digestion of sewage sludge is gaining importance. Among the different renewable fuels, biogas, bio-CNG and hydrogen are the most attractive alternative gaseous fuel for automotive and stationary applications. The development of dedicated biogas fuelled spark ignition engine for stationary power generation in rural areas significantly contribute in reducing emissions and carbon levals. Hence it is a viable option to develop suitable SI engine technology with biogas as a fuel. Also, the project focuses on the development of the CNG fuelled SI engine, it reduces fuel price, and it becomes environmentally friendly. Still, there is a scope for increasing the thermal conversion efficiency and reduced emissions by adding a small amount of hydrogen with CNG, which can be called as HCNG. The objective of the proposed research work is to develop hydrogen enriched CNG fuelled automotive spark ignition engine and dedicated biogas fulled spark igniton engine for stationary power generation for improved performance and reduced emissions. Applying the right mix of technologies for efficient production of biogas, increasing the specific power output, thermal conversion efficiency, and reduced emissions of engines can be realized.
