Project Description
The project offers an innovative approach to understanding the central effects of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) through scientifically rigorous studies, charting new areas of previously unexplored CTS research to identify changes in cortical organization and central processing. Confirmation of our hypotheses will provide novel insights into the central mechanisms of CTS, leading to a paradigm shift that transcends traditional understanding of this peripheral neuropathy. Results from this project will have clinical significance for diagnosis using centrally regulated structural and functional markers, and for rehabilitation targeting neuroplasticity mechanisms. Further, findings from our CTS model may broadly impact other neurological disorders which complicate peripheral-central interactions of the sensorimotor systems.
