Project Description
The project aims to design and develop an energy transformation system enriched with solar and hydrogen energy technologies. The integration of solar energy with a thermally driven sorption hydrogen compressor (SHC) will be carried out for internal combustion engine. The solar collector will be designed based on the heat energy required in SHC. The multi-stage SHC will be designed to provide high-pressure hydrogen. Suitable metal hydrides will be identified to achieve the required pressure output (⁓ 300 bar). The physical and chemical characterisations of chosen metal hydrides will be carried out to estimate the different properties required for the SHC's performance assessment. The performance of a complete system will be numerically predicted through the finite volume method. Finally, based on the design and performance predictions, a real-time device will be fabricated. Further, experiments will be carried out on ICE with compressed hydrogen in lean burn condition and EGR admission to control the knock and emissions.
