Graphical Abstract
Project Description
Vitamin D3 is an essential prohormone for human health. An individual with < 25 ng/mL of Vitamin D are considered as Vitamin D deficient. This deficiency is interlinked with several diseases such as dementia, cardiovascular diseases, prostate cancer, etc. Current detection systems possess various limitations (tedious sample preparation protocol’s, require large sample volumes, high-end instrumentation, time consuming, and trained individuals). Also the test is very expensive (Rs 1500 per test) and is not affordable by large section of Indian population.
In this project, we aim to develop a microfluidic strip that can selectively detect vitamin D3 in human plasma with similar performance as the gold standard i.e. chromatography systems. The outcome of this project could result in a simple device that can help to detect vitamin D3 rapidly and drastically decrease the cost of the test.
