Code of ethics for research followed by the departments
In the conduct of all its programs and activities, the VIT Chennai focuses on excellence,
integrity, efficiency and effectiveness. The faculty, students, staff and others concerned
entrust themselves to enable the achievements of these goals by acting competently,
efficiently and ethically in consistence with the institution's Code of Ethics.
1.
Honesty:
Strive for honesty in all communications.
Be honest and accurate in representing the data, results and inferences
Do not fabricate, falsify, or misrepresent the data in any manner.
Do not deceive co-researchers, research supervisor and the public.
2.
Alertness
:
Avoid careless errors and negligence; carefully and critically examine your own work
and the work of your peers.
Keep good records of research activities, such as data collection, research design, and
correspondence with agencies or journals.
3.
Objectivity
:
Work to avoid bias in experimental designs, simulation outputs, and performance analysis
of data, data analysis, peer evaluation, personnel decision, and other aspects of research.
Avoid conflicts of interests among individual and peer groups.

Integrity:
Keep the initial promises and harmony
Act with genuineness
Strive for reliability of thought process and action
Adhere to the highest standards of intellectual sincerity and truthfulness in research
Abide by reasonable business practices.
5.
Openness:
Create and support an atmosphere that promotes and encourages tall standards and
truthfulness for research, learning, knowledge dissemination and operational
procedures.
Share information, results, thoughts, tools, resources.
Welcome constructive criticisms and novel ideas.
Value diversity, and enable the Center to benefit from contributions of personnel with
diverse backgrounds.

Respect for colleagues
: Respect your contemporaries and treat them equal.
7.
Fair Treatment
: Entirely avoid harassment or discrimination against colleagues, students,
faculty and other people involved on the basis of race, color, national origin, faith, gender,
physical or mental disability, lineage, marital standing, age, nationality or other factors that
are not related to their technical and professional capability and integrity.
8. Monetary Accounting & Cost Reporting Compliance
: Comply with all appropriate and
applicable policies and procedures in support of the operational health of the Center,
including, but not limited to, the standards imposed by the National Science Foundation,
applicable funders, the “home” institutions and the Center Director. Use the Center's funds
and resources solely in support of the Center's goals and objectives. Document and account
for all Center related costs according to agreed-upon reporting format.
9.
Respect to Intellectual Property
: Credit the patents, the copyrights, and other forms of
IP. Do not utilize any unpublished data, procedures, simulation or emulation results without
prior permission and unauthorized. Identify the source of information, where the credit is
