44. How does the department ensure that programme objectives are constantly met and
learning outcomes are monitored?
The input needed for the objectives evaluations is collected from all constituents. However,
the emphasis has been to collect the input from the employers, alumni, faculty members,
students and the members of the Advisory Board. These information are assessed in terms of
the outcomes.
The alumni survey is conducted for all of the alumni of the university. VIT considers the
alumni survey to be the most appropriate tool for evaluating program objectives, since it
reflects longer-term impact of the program. This survey is conducted annually and utilized in
the evaluation of the achievement of Objectives. The survey results from alumni are viewed
as objective input pertaining to the program attributes and how the program meets industry’s
needs. VIT also conducts a survey of the graduating students at the time of graduation and it
is used as one of the measures to assess the Program Outcomes.
The employer survey is used as the second most important tool in the evaluation of the
Program Objectives. This survey is also conducted annually. The employer survey asks the
employers for their input on the skills of the graduates, their abilities to function as
professional engineers and their level of performance in meeting the employer’s expectations.
The survey is concise and derived directly from the Educational Objectives of the program.
