3.3.1 What efforts have been made by the university to improve its
infrastructure requirements to facilitate research? What strategies have
been evolved to meet the needs of researchers in emerging disciplines?
The University encourages faculty members to apply for projects for
possible funding by the government / non-government agencies. To
enable this, the University has constituted a separate office to monitor the
process and to meet the needs of the researchers. Director (Sponsored
Projects) heads the office.
Upon sanction of the grant money by the funding agency, the University
provides necessary space for the execution of the project.
University also encourages the team of faculty members of different
schools to apply to DST to enhance the infrastructure under the FIST
programme. Being a private university, the approval of the grant is
participatory. 50% of the sanctioned amount is borne by the University.
Research groups are formed based on the emerging disciplines and
separate fund has been allocated for their research needs. This acts as a
start up grant, and the faculty members are expected to get further funding
from the external agencies.
3.3.2 Does the university have an Information Resource Centre to cater to
the needs of researchers? If yes, provide details of the facility.
An information resource centre is functioning under the Associate
Dean, Academic Research office.
3.3.3
Does the university have a University Science Instrumentation
Centre (USIC)?
The common facility housing the high end instruments has been initiated.
Though there is no separate building, the Sophisticated Instrumentation
Facility (SIF) lodges the scientific instruments like Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance Spectrometer, Gas Chromatography coupled with a Mass
Spectrometer, for use by all the researchers of the University. The facility
is also available for use for other researchers as well.
The Technology Business Incubator houses instruments like Infra red
spectrometer, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, UV-VIS
spectrometer.
In addition, facilities are available at Schools and Research Centres, in
which the general and sophisticated instruments are made available to the
scholars and faculty members.
The fund for maintaining these instruments are made available under the
respective School budget.
To its share, the University allocates budget for the purchase of scientific
instruments to be used exclusively for research and student projects.
