attributes related to teaching-learning process. Average score is converted in
terms of percentage and is communicated to the teacher concerned. In case of
lower scores, the faculty concerned is asked for explanation and suitable
action is taken to make the teaching-learning process effective. This score is
also used as part of the Annual Performance evaluation of the faculty.
Feedback is also obtained from Alumni, annually. These suggestions (from
students / alumni) are analyzed and are then incorporated into the curriculum /
syllabus to improve the teaching-learning process.
2.4 Teacher Quality
2.4.1
How does the university plan and manage its human resources to
meet the changing requirements of the curriculum?
Several steps are taken by the University to manage its human
resources to meet the changing requirements of the curriculum.
The Academic Staff College organizes several faculty development
programmes. During the last two years more than 125 programmes were
organized. The participation of the faculty is need based.
Schools organize workshops and seminars in specialized areas, so that
they are equipped with the latest updates in the subject area.
Faculty members are encouraged to undertake higher education either at
this University or elsewhere. Faculty members without Ph.D degree are
encouraged to enroll for the research degree under the guidance of a
senior faculty at the University or with other Universities. They register
as Internal Part Time candidates at VIT University.
After completion of the research degree, the faculty members are
motivated to pursue their post-doctoral fellowship at reputed
Universities.
Faculty members participate in the conferences and workshops
conducted in India and abroad.
2.4.3
Does the university encourage diversity in its faculty recruitment?

Though there is no specific policy with regard to the diversity in the
recruitment of the faculty, faculty members are from different parts of the
country. The detailed information on the distribution of the faculty is given
under the ‘Evaluation Report of the Schools’.

How does the university ensure that qualified faculty are
appointed for new programmes / emerging areas of study (Bio-
technology, Bio-informatics, Material Science, Nanotechnology,
Comparative Media Studies, Diaspora Studies, Forensic Computing,
Educational Leadership, etc.)? How many faculty members were
appointed to teach new programmes during the last four years?
VIT gives preference for recruiting faculty members with prior teaching /
industrial / research experience. In areas such as Biotechnology, faculty
members with post-doctoral experience are preferred. The minimum
qualification for appointment of the faculty is a research degree, unless there is
