Almost 100 acres (closed to one-third the total University land area) of
lawn and tree plantations
The University campus has developed a plastic free culture in the sense
that students and faculty are encouraged to use only recyclable plastics
above 50 microns.
Student clubs conducting awareness camps and seminars on foster the
culture of eco friendliness.
Minimal plastic wastes within the campus
Periodical plantation of trees throughout the campus
Plantation of trees as a compulsory ‘ritual’ during the visits of VIPs to
the campus
VIT also has established an ‘Energy Center’ with the twin objectives of
making aware of the importance of Renewable Energy Sources and
Technologies.
Energy conservation:
University implemented many projects for
reducing energy consumption as part of energy conservation through
the following projects.
1.
Replacement of mercury vapor lamp, sodium vapor lamps, tube
lights and incandescent lambs with LEDs.
2.
Generation of power using reject water from Reverse Osmosis
Plant (pilot study)
3.
Window and split air conditioners are being replaced with central
air conditioning facilities
4.
Installation of vapor absorption refrigerator unit using waste heat
from bio-oil plant.
5.
Use of solar power in place of electricity driven hot water
generation in hostels
Use of renewable energy
: The University is committed to increasing
the use of renewable energy by the possible implementation following
strategies which are under pilot study:
