University is responsible for maintaining and supporting the entire University
campus network infrastructure, and overall operations and security of the
University's networks. To ensure proper operation, support, and security of the
networks CTS, takes the responsibility to configure and monitor all network,
communications, and telecommunications related equipment and devices.
Open source Resources Policy
The University endeavors to avoid becoming “locked into” any
proprietary software platforms if possible; freedom of choice shall be
maintained, wherever possible
The University recognizes that there may be some situations where
proprietary software is well-justified, and does not wish decisions in
such cases to be made on spurious “ideological” grounds
The University actively encourages the exploration of open source
software solutions in all areas of application
The University encourages all staff members involved in software
development to make sure that software available under Open Source
license terms (for example, the GNU General Public License), and to
contribute, as appropriate, to existing open source software projects
The University takes appropriate steps to encourage students to use
open source software, as a means to reduce their costs, to expose them
to this alternative form of software licensing.
The University ensures that it imposes no requirement or expectation
on students in any discipline that would require them necessarily to
make use of proprietary software when a cost is involved, where there
are comparable open source packages available
Risk Management policy
VIT University has various security devices and associated software to
manage today’s IT risks. It is equipped with Antivirus, Antispam, DLP
Software to control and mitigate security risks. These devices and software are
up-to-date and computing devices are secured.
Software Asset Management
Software assets (both licensed as well free wares) of the university are
managed by the Center for Technical Support either directly or through the
Schools.
